Suede, meet Leather. Leather, this is Suede.

Suede, meet Leather. Leather, this is Suede.

A bit of an overload of pictures this time huh?  Sorry, but not really sorry.  Sometimes outfits just photograph so well it’s hard for me to choose so instead of wasting my time deciding I just throw them all up… You mad? Didn’t think so.  I know you all just L-O-V-E to see half a million pictures of my bright shiny face!  And on to the clothes!  Did you think I was joking when I said that a black leather skirt is a wardrobe staple?  Besides this one and the little mini I posted a while ago, I also own a vintage black leather pencil skirt.  You seriously can’t go wrong with black leather skirts, throw it on and GET OUT THE HOUSE!  I’m actually really excited to style this one, from Oasis, with an oversized sweater.  The mix of leather and suede are all-too-perfect for fall!   Which reminds me… Guess what!?!  I’m cold right now!  It’s cold outside! In LA!  It’s cold!  Well, it’s “cold”.  It’s like… I don’t know… 64 degrees, which trust me, is FREEZING compared to the 90 degrees it’s been here for the last few months.  Perfect timing to bust out the leather skirts and oversized sweaters, no? Easy Like Sunday Morning.

Easy Like Sunday Morning.

How do you like my hair?  Show stealer huh?  Just kidding, it’s a bowl cut!  You know, the haircut from the past that is definitely back to haunt us?  Just kidding (again), I sleep just fine and I’m sure you do too.  Unless you have a traumatic bowl cut experience lingering from your childhood… If that’s the case I am sorry I have hit on such a touchy subject.  If not, you should really consider getting one yourself because it’s easy like Sunday morning in a hair cut. Any way… Little black leather skirts are a wardrobe staple in my book.  Probably in everyone’s book really, because aside from a good pair of jeans, it’s one of the most versatile pieces you can own.  Throw it on with a tee shirt and a good pair of boots to dress it down, or some heels and a dainty blouse, or do it my way!  I’m all about the comfortable shoe and a good vintage button up!   I like that the top is neutral with splashes of oranges, reds, and yellows.  It was a perfect match with a basic like a leather skirt.  I pulled the red from the top through to the bottom with the dark burgundy sneakers.  I thought a black bag would be a little too predictable, so I went for a tan clutch.  Et voilá!  The perfect black leather mini skirt outfit was born!   Top: Vintage // Skirt: BB Dakota // Socks: Hue // Shoes: Matt Bernson // Bag: Marie Turnor Photography by Sarah Fernandez...

Purple Leather.

Purple Leather.

I love the idea of long shirts over knee length skirts!  I think it adds something new and refreshing to a button up and pencil skirt.  Speaking of the skirt, how awesome is this vintage purple leather skirt?  I found it at a thrift store and it came with an equally as purple, but not equally as awesome, puffy sleeved bolero jacket.  I had to buy them both in order to bring home the skirt, but it was well worth it!   As for the shoes, well that’s a whole thing in and of itself!  I always talk about this piece pulling this other piece into the outfit through the color, but the black of the shoes and socks was nowhere to be found in the rest of the outfit!  I thought I was going to wear a black purse with this, but when I put it all together it was just too heavy and overwhelming to have something black in my hand.  I decided to go with this purple and red clutch from Anthropologie (check out the little fruit man, it’s awesome), to add a little interest to a color blocked outfit.  But alas, there still was no black to be found and that’s when I realized I didn’t have sunglasses!   As everyone knows, LA is sunny.  It’s almost ALWAYS sunny!  I love it, don’t get me wrong, but if you want the kind of light I like in my shoots, you are definitely going to have to wear sunglasses.  What a perfect way to bring in the black than with some black rimmed sunglasses?  Don’t forget...
Layers + Leather Shoppers + Pulpits

Layers + Leather Shoppers + Pulpits

Normally I don’t go for dark backgrounds, but this one seemed to fit the outfit so well.  Maybe it’s because of the neon in the shirt, or maybe it’s just because I’m crazy, but I’m liking it!  Don’t worry, I’m not going to go on an all black backgrounds kick, you’ll still get your usual dosage of all-too-much-color-in-one-picture walls.  It’s always good to change it up a little though right?  Of course I’m right!   Want to know what else I’m right about? Layers.  I’ve been doing layers a lot more this spring, as seen here and here, and it’s adding an entirely new dimension to my wardrobe.  It’s fun to play with not only the colors of layers, but also the shapes.  Larger boxy pieces over more form fitting (an obvious choice), but there are even some glorious layered outfits to be made that are tight over loose!  WHAT? Tight over loose?  That doesn’t make any sense!  You’re imagining the awkwardness of the bunched up bottom layer under a small top layer right?  Well, sometimes it works!  Take the cream colored top above that fits a little more snug along the top half of the piece, but has an open back.  This is the perfect piece to throw something loose under!  Just wait, I’ll show you and prove wrong the little voice in your head that’s huffing and puffing over the mere thought of this combo.   For now though my friends,  you have plenty of springtime shape layering to feast your eyes on in this and the other layerful (awesome new word), posts of late.  The outfit...
