The Brown Plaid Dress + Sneakers

The Brown Plaid Dress + Sneakers

Remember this dress? I ate ice cream in it over here (with much longer hair), right when Salt & Straw opened, before I had such an awful addiction to that place.  Oh well, you win some you lose some, right?  But back to the dress.  My mom found it at a thrift store, which is generally where my most awesome pieces come from, and mailed it to me. It was love at first site!  Brown isn’t a color that pops up in my wardrobe much unless you count brown leather, then it’s a whole different story.  I love this brown plaid though, it is such a killer dress.  I think I could dress it up and wear it out with something awesome under it, or I can wear it like the pictures above, with sneakers!   I feel like I am totally late on the sneaker game, which happened for a couple of reasons.  First I’m just not much of a sneaker girl.  I like boots and every once in a while I throw in a pair of sandals.  And second, I just couldn’t get on board with the plain white sneakers, you know what I’m talking about, that everyone and their brother are making.  Although, I’m not going to lie, now that I see the way of the sneaker (through these ones from Valas, which I also wore with shorts, and my Isabel Marant’s), I kind of want some in every color/shape/size.  Maybe not every size, only my size, but every color including white!  Actually, there is a good chance I would just ruin them… maybe I should stay...
Slouchy Pants + Boxy Top

Slouchy Pants + Boxy Top

This outfit is so funny to me, I honestly hated it when I first put it on.  I think it was something with the colors, but the shapes… The shapes are what made me leave it on (sans my boyfriends approval).  The colors grew on me after a minute! Or maybe I just excused it because I loved the slouchy drop crotch pants with the boxiness of the top.  Either way, now that I look at it I’m not sure why I didn’t like the colors together, specifically the blue in the shirt and the green khaki of the pants.  It is different, and not something I would normally put together, but that’s what getting dressed is all about right?  Trying new things!  Well, that’s what it should be about any way.   I think the black sandals and bag definitely help pull the look together.  I felt like the shoes had to be a little funkier to match the top, and the boxy clutch pulled the black leather up to the top section of the outfit.  In the end I am happy with it.   What do you think, would you wear it?  Have you had outfits that you initially don’t like but after giving it a minute you grow to love it? Or am I just crazy? Either way, C-O-O-L.  And happy Monday everyone!  Top: Fiery Finish Vintage // Pants: Zara // Shoes: Zara // Bag: Vere Verto Photography by Eli...
