Surf in Paris with Layers.

Surf in Paris with Layers.

Just when I thought winter would never come… It’s frigid!  No, that’s totally an exaggeration.  My fingers are frigid, but it’s almost 60 degrees outside.  I know I shouldn’t be complaining because I know some of the country is ACTUALLY frigid right now, but I’m cold!  The only way to beat the weather in LA when it dips below the average temperature of 71 degrees?  Layers!  Layers are such an awesome way to experiment with shapes and patterns, which is absolutely my favorite thing in the world. Obviously. It’s actually kind of funny how this outfit came to be.  It started with the Surf in Paris t-shirt from Millimétré (see my other killer scores from them in this post), but I was a little cold and I wanted to put something under it to keep me warm, so on went a turtleneck dress. The dress was shorter and I knew I would want more coverage, so I put on the boots.  I was STILL cold, so I put this wool skirt on under the dress, and it kind of peeked out the bottom, which was cute, but I needed more!  So then I decided enough was enough, and I got back in bed. Ha, just kidding!  No awkwardness over here.  Unless you count the fact that somehow my pants are on backwards as I write this…  ANYWAY, I do seem to go through spells of color or black and white.  I thought it was connected to the seasons, but this spell of dark clothing plopped itself right down in the middle of spring.  I have no explanation for it, it just kind of happens, and I just let it.  I always want to be authentic, and sometimes that means bright colors that make even me want to puke, and sometimes that means all black with a couple of splashes of awesome.  Case in point, this outfit with a killer printed tee, silver boots, and a bag that could very well be used as a weapon (not unlike this one).    Plain black outfits definitely need a little spunk, don’t you think?  Like the jumpsuit I posted on Monday.  A little somethin’ somethin’ never hurt anyone.  In fact, it only helps!  Maybe you are having a frumpy day, when anything you put on just doesn’t make you feel like yourself.  Throw on some black and add in your favorite statement accessory and call it a day!  Or maybe you just feel all black some days but are dying to wear a pair of crazy colored shoes.  Insert all black here!  See?  Your wardrobe problems solved right here on...
