Just when I thought winter would never come… It’s frigid!  No, that’s totally an exaggeration.  My fingers are frigid, but it’s almost 60 degrees outside.  I know I shouldn’t be complaining because I know some of the country is ACTUALLY frigid right now, but I’m cold!  The only way to beat the weather in LA when it dips below the average temperature of 71 degrees?  Layers!  Layers are such an awesome way to experiment with shapes and patterns, which is absolutely my favorite thing in the world. Obviously.

It’s actually kind of funny how this outfit came to be.  It started with the Surf in Paris t-shirt from Millimétré (see my other killer scores from them in this post), but I was a little cold and I wanted to put something under it to keep me warm, so on went a turtleneck dress. The dress was shorter and I knew I would want more coverage, so I put on the boots.  I was STILL cold, so I put this wool skirt on under the dress, and it kind of peeked out the bottom, which was cute, but I needed more!  So then I decided enough was enough, and I got back in bed. :)

After warming up under a mound of blankets, I decided to give life a try again.  I definitely liked the skirt and the tee together, but this time I reached for a top that buttoned all the way up to cover my neck, plus added a little pattern.  On went the boots again, because of course, how could I not?  BUT I WAS STILL COLD.  Idea!  My plaid vest!  I was highly skeptical when my mind first went there, I was like red plaid and blue plaid?  I don’t think so!  I had to try it though, as I always do, and much to my surprise, it worked!

I think this outfit works because everything pulls from another one of the pieces in it’s coloring.  The red of the shirt borrows from the plaid of the vest, which then matches the red strap of the bag I went with, which is a majority blue.  The blue of the bag ties in with the plaid undershirt which also has a little brown in it, which then grabs the boots and the wool skirt!  Sheesh, I’m a wizard at getting dressed some days!  :)
