so fresh
Asher from One Turn Kiss

When Autumn is 85+ Degrees.

Holy moly, I am so ready for fall.  SO READY.  I love LA, but gimme a chill! Gimme some sweaters! Gimme some freakin’ fall!   I feel like I have a whole wardrobe waiting to be explored full of fuzzy things and layers, but for now I will just have to settle with some autumnal tones.   These boots, in particular, always show their face when I’m in the mood for fall.  I can’t help it!  They are so golden-y yellow and awesome, they scream FALL.  Don’t get me wrong, I totally break them out sometimes in the summer, when […]

California Summer

My goodness, it’s been a while!  While I was in a definite need of a break from the blog, I am so happy to be back!  And if you didn’t already notice on Instagram, I’m now One Turn Kiss, rather than One Turn Kill.  Unfortunately there is too much negativity and violence happening in the world and my name was being associated with it.  I know that all of you know that I am quite the peaceful person (at least I hope by now you do…), and that I just want everyone to be nice and of course for everything […]

It was too cold, but I did it anyway.

I cannot even explain to you how cold it was when we took these pictures!  It was somewhere around 17 degrees and all I wanted to do was go back inside and curl up in a ball and cry.  It’s like in the winter in LA you just talk about how you are TRYING to wear a light jacket or sweater because you REALLY want it to be cool enough for one, but then you go to NY and all you can do is talk about how you had to take off your down parka to get a decent picture of […]

Asher from One Turn Kill, Los Angeles based fashion and style blogger, at New York Fashion Week fw 2016

This one time at fashion camp…

I actually brought this band jacket home with me from Utah in December, but with LA being so LA, and the jacket being so very wool-y, I couldn’t break it out until the freezing temps of NY.  My mom was out vintage hunting one day and sent me a picture of it with a big (???).  I was like (!!!).  And here we are, months later with patches/pins a blazin’.   I felt like these over-the-knee boots from Valas Los Angeles were a shoo-in with the jacket, something about the military inspired look of the band jacket and the laces […]

Happiest, Cutest Valentine’s Day

I went to the cutest Galentine’s Day party last night in Brooklyn, hosted by Sam Ushiro, Jordan Sondler, and Melissa Torres. We got so many goodies from and were definitely overloaded with cuteness, (if that is even a thing). Anyway, I thought I would share a couple of shots, so you could get in on the cuteness too! Happy Valentine’s Day! Hope your day is full of love!

Please, Part Deux.

Fail, fail, fail!  I have posted about half as much as I normally do in the last two weeks!  Why you ask?  I’ll tell ya, I’m moving!  So, instead of trying to juggle moving and very half-assedly blogging and very full-assedly failing, I’m going to take the next little bit off of writing to get a hold on things.   On top of the big move, I’m also attending New York Fashion week this year (insert celebratory horn & confetti emoji thing here)!  But this is my first time and there is so much planning and emailing and planning and more emailing that goes into it!  Trust me, I’m more than glad to be doing it and to be where I am, but a girls gotta have time to breath, you know?  The chances of me actually having time to breath in the next week are slim to none, but I promise you I’m going to try!  I also promise that I will be back at my normal antics sooner than you know!   Too many exclamation points for one paragraph? Maybe, but it’s exciting over here right now, even with all of the work!  Now step on down off of your exclamatory high horse, PLEASE excuse my absence, and follow me over on Instagram and Snapchat (@oneturnkill for both), because I’ll pop in over there to say hi every now and then.  ...

Topped with a Tomato.

If you follow me on Instagram (which I am sure you do because why would you do that to me?), you saw that I went to a Tillamook Co-op event in Malibu.  Why Tillamook?  Because it sounded fun and mostly it sounded D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S. Well my friends, it was fun!  And more importantly, delicious doesn’t even begin to explain the treats we had!   From sour cream ice cream topped with tomato and balsamic vinaigrette,  to aged sharp cheddar, swiss, and Colby topped with wild spices and foraged seeds, everything was so YUMMY!  Even cooler, they actually had a professional forager (yes, that exists in Los Angeles of all places), tell us about some of the seeds and herbs available in the LA area.  Want to know my favorite thing that I learned?  All pine is edible!  Who knew?   Although the food was obviously amazing, the scenery wasn’t so bad either.  It was held at One Gun Ranch which sits high in Malibu and looks over the ocean and beautiful greenery.  Plus, there were animals!  Pigs and alpacas and horses and dogs and…. I’m sure there were more, that’s just all I can think of off of the top of my head.   All in all, I would consider this event a win.  Well… except for that it was one million degrees, but I think that was a bit out of their hands.   Photography by Eli Sims  ...

Showing a little love.

I’m seriously so excited to be sharing these pieces with you guys!  So many months ago I came across an Instagram page that kept me looking.  Lots of pretty colors, really awesome detail shots, and best of all, comfy clothes!  What was that Instagram page you ask? It was that of none other than Butter Nation.  After one major insta-creep session, my next step was to find out where to shop this amazing collection!  Turns out, it isn’t quite out yet.  Never fear though, my good people, for we can make this happen, and snag some of the pieces as we go!  The two designers behind Butter Nation have launched a Kickstarter with donation awards of the best buttery soft pieces you will ever experience in your life.  I’m not kidding, it’s the softest clothing I have ever had the pleasure of putting on my body.  So, spread the love and snag yourself some of your own body loving, hand dyed Butter Nation of your own!  Hop on over to the link below to do yourself, and them, a major favor.  As far as how I decided to dawn my Butter Nation? Well, the shorts and sweatshirt were super easy, pair with Chucks, DUH!  The perfect outfit for being out and about in LA, getting things done, taking over the world and such.  But the pants… with the pants I wanted something a little different, something that took the pairing to the next level.  Ehem, next level… maybe through platform shoes?  And in swoops my trusty glitter sandals!  I feel like this is also a perfect around town outfit,...

Sorry for the picture overload, but I mean… Come on!  How awesome are these pictures?  This white building with it’s white shades pulled down in the windows was such a perfect backdrop to make my dress and shoes pop!  It always makes me so happy when I find the perfect backdrop to an outfit.  It’s so much harder said than done!  Finding colored walls around Los Angeles isn’t so much a problem, nor finding white walls.  The problem that you run across around here is the graffiti OR the painted over graffiti that was done in a slightly different shade than the original color.  Every time I see someone painting a building somewhere I am like QUICK!  Shoot time!  Gotta get a shoot in before some little turd decides whatever he has to say is better than a beautifuly pristine paint job.   Does this all make me sound old?  ANYWAY… The walls would be nothing without the outfits right?  Right.  I love that this outfit plays on black and white with the best pops of color to throw it off a bit.  This mesh dress from A Common Space has the most perfect tropical print!  I’m calling it sporty-tourist-core.  It’s a thing, totally.  Slap on a denim vest with none other than a hula girl sittin’ pretty right on the back and I think we’ve got one killer outfit on our hands.  Disagree? Well, I can’t help you because you are wrong.     I thought the florals would be complimented oh-so-nicely with bright pink sneakers, and pulled the stripes from the collar of the dress down through...

High neck tanks and zippered ankles.

Can you tell fall is on my mind?  I have no idea why because summer is my favorite, especially since I have access to several different beaches.  Maybe it’s the colors I am craving?  Or maybe it’s just because it has been so ungodly humid the last few weeks.  What can you do in the humidity?  Nothing but sweat.  Not that we don’t all need a good sweat, but it is preferable to have that sweat come from exercise, not from simply sitting at a desk.   How did we get into sweat? This is a fashion publication people, we talk about fashion!  More we talk about my feelings towards the outfit I am wearing.  We being you and me, although these seem to be a mostly one sided conversations.  Where you at, huh?!?   Stop distracting me would you?  This outfit, it’s what I’m about right now.  It’s the best mix of fall and summer.  Loose, light denim and a tank with a turtle neck?  Best of both worlds I think.  I’m normally not a fan of acid wash or even plain old washed out, light denim, but these spoke to me.  I’m guessing it’s the slight drop crotch and ankle zippers that got me.  For some reason I was just really feeling them and thought they looked extra special with this spotted top.  Which, I’m not going to lie, was a total accident that I put this top and pants together.  I was trying the top on and then moved on to trying on the pants, et voilà!  The shoes weren’t as obvious as I looked at...

Styling a vintage dress with sneakers.

Off all of the vintage dresses I own, this is definitely one of my favorites.  It’s like the best 80s-space-suit-retro-pop-fusion dress that ever existed!  I feel like I could do anything in it, which is why I paired it with my trusty Converse to frolic around Los Angeles on a warm (and I’m not going to lie, uncomfortably humid) Saturday.  A dress I can throw on with sneakers is a dress that will stay near to my heart for many a Saturday to come.   Button up, light weight dresses with cool patterns rival jumpsuits for me.  They are just as easy to put on and just as comfortable as long as you aren’t tryna karate kick anyone.  Don’t get me wrong, it could definitely still be accomplished in a dress like this, you just might have to sacrifice your dignity while everyone sees your underpants. Let’s just stick with punches for the day, alright? Dress: Fiery Finish Vintage // Shoes: Converse // Bag: Urban Outfitters  Photography by Eli...

LA Ninja Warrior Ep. 1

Just kidding, this isn’t LA Ninja Warrior episode 1.  It’s episode 2! (For the first installment, see this post.)  Really though, I was so pumped, and I mean P-U-M-P-E-D, when I found this matching set.  It was just sitting there at a thrift store in Salt Lake over the 4th of July, minding it’s own business, when I came along!  It is pretty happy to be with me too, I’m pretty sure… I would really like to meet the person who first purchased this set because they are obviously awesome.  Well, maybe they aren’t that awesome because they did end up donating it to a thrift store.  I like to think that they just grew out of it though, maybe too wide or too thin for it?  Let’s go with that as to not ruin this person that I have put on a pedestal for buying a dragon ninja outfit.   Anyway, finds like this are why I love to shop for vintage in Utah.  I feel like it’s hard to find such awesomeness in Los Angeles, either because it’s gone already or because it costs $5,000.  This little set cost me a grand total of $6.  Seriously.  So, if you ever find yourself in Utah make some time to go to Deseret Industries (the resident and all reigning thrift store chain in Utah), and dig up some gems.  I promise you won’t be sorry.   Until I go back though, I at least have this guy to keep my heart warm at night.   Matching Set: Vintage // Sneakers: Galibier // Bag: Hare + Hart Photography by Eli...

T-shirt dresses are nothing but trouble.

A basic t-shirt dress is nothing but trouble.  Trouble, trouble, trouble.  Wanna know why?  Because once you find the perfect one, one that just feels good when you put it on, in all of it’s t-shirt-y glory, you never want to take it off.  You wake up in the morning, you put on the dress.  You go to bed and take it off just to sleep a few hours and start the whole process over again.  What a pain those t-shirt dresses are!  Taking up all of that valuable wardrobe time!  Well listen up little missy, I’m not taking it anymore!  No more of your “Oh, look how soft and swooshy and comfortable I am!”  No.  I won’t stand for it.  Get a job t-shirt dress!  GET A JOB.  Well, okay.  Maybe not until tomorrow, because today I am wearing you.  Okay well maybe the next day.  FINE!  Just stay home, be lazy, and best of all, BE MINE.   Thanks, bye.  Dress: BagLady Basics Drop Waist Tee Dress // Bag: Brandon Blackwood NYC // Shoes: Glitter Sneakers (On SALE! Don’t be a piece of paper. Please.

White on white!  It seems that white is popping up quite a bit this summer over here, bringing to light one very important detail: I need a tan/a beach day/a week in Hawaii.  Luckily for you, I have the tiniest bit of olive naturally in my skin so I don’t get completely lost in my outfit.    The trick though, really, is to build your white outfits without turning into a blank sheet of paper.  How do you do that without adding color in?  Well, a great place to start is with a tiny bit of a pattern, like in the pants above.  Granted the pattern is in black, but it’s not bringing in so much that it over powers the white.  Next is the most important step, different shades of white!  This is done all too perfectly, and might I add all too easily, with this crochet fringe collar from Absenta.   As soon as I saw this collar I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it.  LAYER WITH WHITE.  It’s kind of odd, as layering whites isn’t something I normally do, but for some reason I knew it had to go with white.  Maybe it was the fact that it was slightly off white?  I think I like the thought of something adding interest to a plain white top, which is hard to do without completely taking it over with color.  Not with this collar though, it adds an incredible amount of detail to my top, while almost blending in and completely standing out at the same time.  Really it could go with any color...
