Although it’s summer, the weather has been kind of up and down around here.  When I say up and down, I mean one week it was almost 90 degrees (summer) and now it’s like 75 degrees (winter. Ha.  You can only say winter to 75 in LA.).  That’s pretty up and down, as it usually stays a pretty solid temperature, well, all the time.  So along with moody temps come moody dressing.  This outfit is perfect for the solid 75 we’re at right now.  Light and airy on top, summery florals in the skirt, but with a bit of grounded dark leather in the black boots and bag.

Thinking about small elements like “grounded shoes” or “light and airy tops” can help you pull your outfit together when you aren’t quite sure what kind of weather you should be dressing for.  It also kind of makes you feel like you are in yoga or something right?  Feeling grounded or light as air?  No?  Well anyway, thinking about things like that while getting dress can help you decide what kind of shoes to pair with a gauzy dress, say if it’s a cool 60-70, and you don’t want to go full on summer.  Or it can go the other way, putting airy tops with pieces like this skirt that are pretty angular and hold their ground pretty firmly, balance everything out.

Speaking of angles, remember this skirt and this dress?  The skirt above, in all of it’s floraly-angular-goodness, is from the same designer as the aforementioned skirt and dress, Echo + Air.  The mastermind behind the whole collection, Jordana, is so good at making pieces look built onto the human body.  And with so much dimension!  Things always hang or fall or stretch over your body in such a way it creates new dimensions in your outfit.  With this skirt, not only does the shape speak for itself, but the layered black under the floral gives it just that much more to grab your eye, without ever being too much.  That’s quite the feat if you ask me!  Throw on the matching bralette (yes there is a matching bralette), and I think you’re good and ready to get your summer started, moody weather or not!
