Ice Cream.

Ice Cream.

Sooooo… the Portland based ice cream company, Salt & Straw, opened a location in LA.  Can you say bad news?  I can’t because it’s the best news, despite what Los Angeles’ waistlines might say.  With crazy flavors that you just have to try out (Avocado & Strawberry Sherbet, Tomato Water & Ojai Olive Oil Sherbet, and Black Olive Brittle & Goat Cheese), to more classic ice cream flavors (Chocolate Gooey Brownie and Single Origin Amadeas Vanilla), their ice cream is seriously THE BEST.  No, this isn’t a sponsered post and I wasn’t gifted anything, I just loooooooooove their ice cream and feel it is my duty to spread the word! On to the real story here though, or at least the reason you probably come to OTK, outfits and not ice cream.  This dress is an instant classic!  Why?  Dresses like these are perfect for pairing with something that you REALLY want to stand out.  With this outfit it was my BOUNDla wood necklace that I wanted people to be able to see, in all of it’s angular glory.  Here is my process from beginning to end: It starts with: the necklace. Next:  I had been dying to wear the necklace for some time, but I wanted an outfit that would really just serve as a background to it.  It pairs perfectly with tees, sweatshirts and mostly anything, but I really wanted it to pop.  My mom (Love you mom!) sent me this dress and I instantly knew they were made for each other!  The higher neckline of the dress makes the shape of the necklace really stand on...
Sporty.

Sporty.

I am not a fan of tight dresses.  Why?  How are you supposed to get anything done?  You can’t.  Then in comes this dress, in all of it’s stretchy, sporty glory to save the day!  Would my day really have been ruined without it?  Maybe, but probably not.  Any way, I’m starting a new thing where I give you an idea of how I put my outfit together.  Whatchoo think about that? What: The dress. And next: I knew I wanted something kind of chunky on the bottom, to balance out the sleek look of the dress.  I also knew I would want something to really stand out, aside from the dress, to make the outfit pop.  I am not going to lie, this one was pretty easy because I hadn’t worn these boots yet so they were on the forefront of my mind as far as light colored shoes go.  I tried the shoes first without socks, and decided that the contrast of the navy dress and the off white shoe was perfect, but there needed to be a little more darkness down at the feet.  That is where the black socks came in.  I like navy and black together, although sometimes they can get lost in each other.  I feel that it works here because they are broken apart with some skin and the light coloring of the boots. How it ends: The bandolier.  Oh, the bandolier!  I can’t tell you guys how much this little green thing saves my life.  I love carefree pieces and this one takes the cake.  I only put things in the...

Baby Libra Star

If there is one thing I like, it’s statement pieces.  Can I drill that into your head one more time?  I’m sure it will come up again, so don’t worry if you don’t get it this time.  Anyway, this hat is exactly that.  I saw it and I thought, “Gee, that hat is ugly.”  Then I walked around some more and saw it again, still thinking it was ugly, I kept on with my business.  The third time I saw it, yes, THE THIRD TIME, I said to it, “You are ugly.  I will take you home.”  And here it is, happily ever after plopped on my head!  What better way to make an outfit go from nothing to something than a mint green hat with neon orange trim! P.S. Check out this necklace.  For reals though, check it out!  It’s from a collection called Nobody’s Perfect Zodiac by Pretty Little Thing.  I am so in love with the cute sayings on the back to go with each astrological sign!  I am a Libra (Sup to my Baby Libra Star and all my other fellow scales!),  and my necklace says “You’re So Vain”!  Duh, I write a blog about myself because I love my clothes (and myself) just that much.  Wow, really?  Seriously though, go pop on over and see what yours says!  Bet it’s not as good as mine… Necklace: gifted Libra Necklace // Dress & Shoes: Urban Outfitters // Jacket: Vintage // Hat: Anthropologie // Socks: Top Shop Photography by Sumanta...
How to put it all together.

How to put it all together.

Finally the fall weather is here!  And by fall weather, I mean we’re down to the seventies.  It is a much needed break from the summer-in-fall weather we have been having, I’m talking to you, 90 degree days!  The past few months have given me quite the challenge when it comes to getting dressed because when it’s so hot out, wearing anything but a tank and shorts seems ridiculous!  I am learning to mix and match colors, fabrics, and varying degrees of being covered up, to keep myself fashionably satisfied.  Take a little from this season and a little from that season to make something that is my own! I have been dying to throw some cooler weather pieces in to the mix and this hat sent over by Allison was the perfect way to do just that!  It’s just enough funky-cool to pair with this just as funky-cool vintage dress and boots, while not all together being dressed for colder temperatures.  Based in Paris, Allison has rounded up lots of unique, statement pieces, like this hat, to make them a one stop shop for when you are looking for something to make your outfit pop!  Which, of course, is what I am all about.  Check them out! It’s perfect, seriously.

It’s perfect, seriously.

The search for the perfect shirt dress is pretty much over if you ask me.  This drop waist tee dress sent over by Baglady Basics is the black tee dress to rule them all!  Baggy in just the right places and fitted in just the right places.  I’m not going to lie, I have worn this dress about five of the ten days since I have had it.  Why? It’s comfortable as all get out and made to pair with crazy shoes! I can rarely resist crazy shoes, especially when they were made for walkin’ like these oxfords are.  Which honestly, their comfort was kind of a surprise when I tried them on, a very welcome one though.  I’m into the white sock Michael Jackson thing right now.  Well really I am into the socks with every kind of shoes, no matter what color or shape or size, but the white sock and black shoe thing really gets me.  What better way to show them off than with a dress?  No better way I tell ya!
