It was too cold, but I did it anyway.

I cannot even explain to you how cold it was when we took these pictures!  It was somewhere around 17 degrees and all I wanted to do was go back inside and curl up in a ball and cry.  It’s like in the winter in LA you just talk about how you are TRYING to wear a light jacket or sweater because you REALLY want it to be cool enough for one, but then you go to NY and all you can do is talk about how you had to take off your down parka to get a decent picture of […]

This one time at fashion camp…

I actually brought this band jacket home with me from Utah in December, but with LA being so LA, and the jacket being so very wool-y, I couldn’t break it out until the freezing temps of NY.  My mom was out vintage hunting one day and sent me a picture of it with a big (???).  I was like (!!!).  And here we are, months later with patches/pins a blazin’.   I felt like these over-the-knee boots from Valas Los Angeles were a shoo-in with the jacket, something about the military inspired look of the band jacket and the laces […]

Happiest, Cutest Valentine’s Day

I went to the cutest Galentine’s Day party last night in Brooklyn, hosted by Sam Ushiro, Jordan Sondler, and Melissa Torres. We got so many goodies from Ban.do and were definitely overloaded with cuteness, (if that is even a thing). Anyway, I thought I would share a couple of shots, so you could get in on the cuteness too! Happy Valentine’s Day! Hope your day is full of love!

All of the pretty things.

Generally I am not a fan of the yellowy, sun going down, perma-70s picture, or as so many people more eloquantly put it, the “golden hour” light, but here with this outfit, it feels so right!  Maybe it’s the leather jacket or something, I’m not sure, but I’m into it. This outfit is really one of the easiest things to wear and it all starts with the shirt dress from Loup!  A white button up shirt dress is always good to have on hand, not to mention one with all of the pretty things a girl needs in life i.e. red lips, […]

There is just something about this oversized white button up.  It gets me, you know?  It’s like “Hey, I’m here.  I’ll give you so much room to play.”  While also being like, “You can do this!  You can be an adult that can wear a white shirt all day and not spill anything!  Get it girl.”   And I look in the mirror and I’m just like, “Cool.” The pants have a little of the same magic, don’t you think?  Baggy, but not too baggy.  Cropped, but not capris.  Also, they have a drawstring waistband…. I hope to grow up […]

It was too cold, but I did it anyway.

I cannot even explain to you how cold it was when we took these pictures!  It was somewhere around 17 degrees and all I wanted to do was go back inside and curl up in a ball and cry.  It’s like in the winter in LA you just talk about how you are TRYING to wear a light jacket or sweater because you REALLY want it to be cool enough for one, but then you go to NY and all you can do is talk about how you had to take off your down parka to get a decent picture of your outfit.  Then you realize why you live in a place that doesn’t have winter… At least my outfit is still cute, right?  A bright red vintage wool sweater and my over-the-knee Valas Los Angeles boots (that may or may not have never left my feet while I was in NY because of their comfort. YES, I said comfort when talking about over-the-knee boots. GET YOURSELF SOME.), and DING!  I’m done! Okay, maybe I also put a skirt on.  And also I added a few killer accessories like a Boera necklace and Hare & Hart bag.  AND maybe a bright neon pink scarf… Okay, so I was far from done with the sweater and boots.  I guess just thinking about the bitter cold tundra that was New York Fashion Week has my brain a little fried.  Or maybe my brain is a little fried because it is actually a little hot sitting here in my LA apartment as I write this…  The world may never know.  Sweater: Vintage, similar here, here...

So I went to find shorts in the mess of an apartment that was my life post-move/pre-New York, and these were all that I could dig up.  In order to find out if shorts were going to work with the outfit, I tried them on before searching longer and harder for more shorts.  Et voilá!  Not only would shorts be G-R-E-A-T, this very pair was just right!   Kind of silly in the cold, I know, but don’t worry!  I had thermals on under all of my clothing, and big snuggy socks under my boots!  I was still freezing, I’m not going to lie to you, it was COLD.  Oh the things we do in the name of fashion… Band Jacket: Vintage // Shorts: Vintage // Boots: Valas Los Angeles Stevie...

The day I shot this, it just so happened to be on the cooler side of LA weather so I went with a leather jacket (yes, it’s the most perfect brown vintage leather jacket that there has ever been or will ever be, I know), and some knee highs.  From there, it’s all about the little details you add!  A bandana tied around my neck and killer platform lace up shoes from Valas Los Angeles did it for me.  I mean, come on with these shoes and their buttery tan suede! ...

Christmas Dressing

Nothing is more fun than dressing up for a fancy-schmancy party.  Seriously, when I got the invite to attend a holiday get-together on a yacht (like I said, fancy-schmancy), I immediately knew I wanted a big, BIG dress!  This Val Stefani gown fit the bill, and I love that I got to add my own little bit of style to it with the vintage striped tee.  Very me, no?  Plus, it’s definitely going to be a bit chilly out on the water, so layers are essential!   Wish me luck to not fall overboard and also wish me so much warmth! Gown: Val Stefani // Tee:...

Surf in Paris with Layers.

Just when I thought winter would never come… It’s frigid!  No, that’s totally an exaggeration.  My fingers are frigid, but it’s almost 60 degrees outside.  I know I shouldn’t be complaining because I know some of the country is ACTUALLY frigid right now, but I’m cold!  The only way to beat the weather in LA when it dips below the average temperature of 71 degrees?  Layers!  Layers are such an awesome way to experiment with shapes and patterns, which is absolutely my favorite thing in the world. Obviously. It’s actually kind of funny how this outfit came to be.  It started with the Surf in Paris t-shirt from Millimétré (see my other killer scores from them in this post), but I was a little cold and I wanted to put something under it to keep me warm, so on went a turtleneck dress. The dress was shorter and I knew I would want more coverage, so I put on the boots.  I was STILL cold, so I put this wool skirt on under the dress, and it kind of peeked out the bottom, which was cute, but I needed more!  So then I decided enough was enough, and I got back in bed. After warming up under a mound of blankets, I decided to give life a try again.  I definitely liked the skirt and the tee together, but this time I reached for a top that buttoned all the way up to cover my neck, plus added a little pattern.  On went the boots again, because of course, how could I not?  BUT I WAS STILL COLD.  Idea!  My...

Really, it’s all about the towels.

When dealing with a tiny bathroom (as seems to be all that exist in the L.A. area), there are two very important things to keep in mind. Numero uno: cuteness! (This goes for everything always.) Numero dos (and probably what is actually number one in real life): functionality!  I’m not going to lie, mashing these two priorities together can be extremely tricky sometimes. Lucky for you, I live for just such the conundrum, and I am here to show you how I’ve pulled them both together in my teeny-tiny little bathroom! So, if you notice in the pictures, there isn’t so much as one drawer built in to the space. There is, thank goodness, at least an under the sink cabinet (although it also houses all of the pipes which annoyingly take up space), and also a mirror cabinet. Other than that, the bathroom has zip, zero, zilch for storage space. You wanna know what? This girl has some stuff! Curlers and lotions and makeup and blah blah blah. I’m assuming that, unless you are some kind of a freak, you also have some stuff! What do we do with this stuff when there is basically nowhere to hide it?  This is precisely where cuteness and functionality must collide.  The trick to pulling off a room where mostly everything is accessible while still looking good is finding eye appealing storage. And if you are me, which you aren’t so take this for what it is worth, the storage must also be quirky and different. Yes, I could have bought a pre made bathroom storage cabinet of some sort and...

World’s Best Superpower.

While this vintage jumpsuit might not look like much, it’s one of the fundamental pieces in my wardrobe.  Mostly because it’s the easiest thing to throw on, but also because it actually says something.  What does it say?  Well, it kind of just says that I am lazy, but also that I found something unique and I’m not afraid to wear it! To be honest (or TBH, is that what the kids are saying these days?), one of these jumpsuits isn’t that hard to find, you could probably find one today if you looked around a bit.  I even linked to ones that are new that are quite a lot like this one, in case you aren’t into the vintage hunt kind of thing.  As for the hat?  This hat!  I can’t express to you in words how very awesome this hat via Millimétré is.  The most magical blue felted wool and perfect shape… I’m kinda making it sound like you will have super powers when you wear it, and it’s pretty much not far from that.  I mean, the ability to cover up a bad hair day at any given moment is quite the super power, no?  And now we are to the shoes (also via Millimétré) and Valas Los Angeles bag!  Shiny shoes?  No brainer.  White bag that’s so fresh and oh-so-clean? Done!  Wearing three statement pieces like the hat, bag, and shoes all in one outfit can be hard sometimes.  This is where the jumpsuit comes into play.  If you have a larger canvas of clothing to play with, say something like this green jumpsuit or...

Five, Fringe, Three, Two, One.

Why hello there!  I feel like it’s been forever since I have posted, although it has only been one week… That’s quite a long time in the blog world!  I’m still here though, alive and kickin’ and also getting dressed!   Let me tell you a little bit about this Alli K dress!  I got it specifically for New York Fashion Week and let me tell you, it got more than it’s share of wear time.  I kept throwing it on for everything!  Too tired to get dressed?  Throw on this dress.  Going to a party?  Throw on this dress.  Just want to be comfortable?  Throw on this dress.  I’m not kidding you, I wore it on four of the seven days I was there.  I’m sure the people I kept running into were like, “Did this chick not bring any more clothes?”  I did.  I brought clothes enough for eight days even though I was only there for seven, but when something just feels right, well… You go with it.   This dress just feels right and it’s the fringe, I’m pretty sure.  Actually maybe it’s the mesh detailing along with the fringe.  OR!  Maybe it’s the mesh detailing along with the fringe, along with the fact that it’s the most fun you could pack into a little black dress.  I dunno guys, it’s just awesome, you’ll have to get one for yourself to know what I’m talking about.  Go on now, do it!  Dress: Alli K // Top: Adeline Pour Vous Vintage // Shoes:...

Win-win kind of outfit.

I think it’s safe to say this is some of the most chic pajama dressing there is.  Comfy drop crotch shorts & a cute sweatshirt made perfect by heeled boots!  The sweatshirt of course has elements of it’s own that take it out of lazy day territory, with it’s geometric quilting and rather awesome snake graphic.  And the shorts?  Well… FRINGE.  Pretty sure I have worn this outfit three times in the last week.  Don’t judge me. I’m smack dab in the middle of a love affair with these red vintage boots too, so what better way to take my all black, all-too comfortable outfit to the next level! And the clutch?  The clutch gives the whole outfit a little something extra.  I think a black bag would have been too obvious but the tan one stands out against the outfit, while still being pulled into it with the tans and golden yellows of the snake.  This is what we call a win-win outfit my friends, now go snag this sweatshirt for your own!  Sweatshirt: Norwegian Wood // Shorts: Rachel Comey // Boots: Vintage // Bag: Marie...

Suede, meet Leather. Leather, this is Suede.

A bit of an overload of pictures this time huh?  Sorry, but not really sorry.  Sometimes outfits just photograph so well it’s hard for me to choose so instead of wasting my time deciding I just throw them all up… You mad? Didn’t think so.  I know you all just L-O-V-E to see half a million pictures of my bright shiny face!  And on to the clothes!  Did you think I was joking when I said that a black leather skirt is a wardrobe staple?  Besides this one and the little mini I posted a while ago, I also own a vintage black leather pencil skirt.  You seriously can’t go wrong with black leather skirts, throw it on and GET OUT THE HOUSE!  I’m actually really excited to style this one, from Oasis, with an oversized sweater.  The mix of leather and suede are all-too-perfect for fall!   Which reminds me… Guess what!?!  I’m cold right now!  It’s cold outside! In LA!  It’s cold!  Well, it’s “cold”.  It’s like… I don’t know… 64 degrees, which trust me, is FREEZING compared to the 90 degrees it’s been here for the last few months.  Perfect timing to bust out the leather skirts and oversized sweaters, no? Top: Vintage // Skirt: Oasis // Shoes: Opening Ceremony // Bag: Valas Los Angeles (More from Valas here) // Sunglasses:...

Grids & Duffles.

If this isn’t the most perfect sweater dress, then I sure don’t know what is!  Grid?  Check.  Turtleneck?  Check.  Perfect body con fit?  Double check!  It’s hard to find a sweater dress that is actually flattering and not just a large bag you throw on your body.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m all about wearing the bag sweater, but it’s nice to have options people!  I think the print makes it a bit more wearable as well, with horizontal and vertical stripes doing all sorts of things to your eyes and taking them in all sorts of directions, accentuating those lady lumps.   The dress also made for the perfect backdrop to my Julia Gabriel bag, which has definitely become one of my prized possessions, because DUH!  It’s literally perfect.  I love the mix of canvas and leather and the fact that it looks like an upscale, modern version of a duffle bag.  Luh-luh-love it!  I threw on some boots and cute sunglasses and on my way I went!  Dress: C/MEO via BNKR //Boots: Zara // Bag: Julia Gabriel Studio // Sunglasses: Poppy Lissiman Photography by Eli Sims...

Easy Like Sunday Morning.

How do you like my hair?  Show stealer huh?  Just kidding, it’s a bowl cut!  You know, the haircut from the past that is definitely back to haunt us?  Just kidding (again), I sleep just fine and I’m sure you do too.  Unless you have a traumatic bowl cut experience lingering from your childhood… If that’s the case I am sorry I have hit on such a touchy subject.  If not, you should really consider getting one yourself because it’s easy like Sunday morning in a hair cut. Any way… Little black leather skirts are a wardrobe staple in my book.  Probably in everyone’s book really, because aside from a good pair of jeans, it’s one of the most versatile pieces you can own.  Throw it on with a tee shirt and a good pair of boots to dress it down, or some heels and a dainty blouse, or do it my way!  I’m all about the comfortable shoe and a good vintage button up!   I like that the top is neutral with splashes of oranges, reds, and yellows.  It was a perfect match with a basic like a leather skirt.  I pulled the red from the top through to the bottom with the dark burgundy sneakers.  I thought a black bag would be a little too predictable, so I went for a tan clutch.  Et voilá!  The perfect black leather mini skirt outfit was born!   Top: Vintage // Skirt: BB Dakota // Socks: Hue // Shoes: Matt Bernson // Bag: Marie Turnor Photography by Sarah Fernandez...
